Well, I've been out of the blogging world for a few days, (I am going to have to set a real routine for myself with this blogging stuff!), but I have a good reason, wedding season!  So, I thought I'd  post about the current wedding dress I'm making!

I wasn't sure about posting throughout the dressmaking process, but I thought it might be interesting for you guys to see the progression of a custom made gown!

This is my future cousin, Cassie.  She's really petite and she had some great dress ideas in mind, so she asked me to make her dress, rather than trying to buy one off the rack.

We started working out ideas about this time last year, and her wedding is in October.  I got her into the first muslin mock-up a few weeks ago (we went through a few different styles!) and these pictures are from the first time she saw the lace I chose for her skirt.

She's wearing the muslin mock-up with her full petticoat, and we're just holding the lace over it to mimic the skirt.  Getting a dress made involves a lot of using-your-imagination during the creation process. :)

The dress will be satin, with lace over the bodice and then this great bordered lace on the skirt.  She chose ivory to match with her great-grandmother's pearls.  She's the only girl on her dad's side of the family, so those pearls are really special to her!  (Of course, I don't have the pearls pictured! Sorry!)

Now that we have the design and fit somewhat finalized, (I say somewhat, because the beauty of making a custom dress is that it can be tweaked all along the way), I will transfer the fit adjustments to the pattern I made, then I can begin to work on cutting and assembling the dress out of the final satin fabric.

I will keep you posted!!

(I think she looks pretty happy!)
